PORTLAND, OREGON (April 18, 2005) - Rena Harris, manager of Azumano Travel's flagship office at the corner of SW Fourth and Stark in downtown Portland, Oregon, was notified by the Travel Institute that she has earned the Certified Travel Industry Executive (CTIE) designation, the newest designation in the Institute's certification portfolio. Harris, a travel industry veteran of 35 years, was informed she is among the first industry professionals in the United States to receive the CTIE designation. The CTIE program evaluates leadership style and effectiveness of executives, mid-level to upper-level management, or anyone leading a team and working with key business issues in all segments of the travel industry. To earn the CTIE designation, candidates must have ten years of full-time professional work experience, five of which must be in the travel industry. They also must have the Certified Travel Associate (CTA) or Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) designation or have passed the CTA test by taking the CTA Challenge (formerly called the CTC Challenge). Once enrolled, candidates are required to successfully complete the CTIE test and submit a white paper. The Travel Institute was established in 1964 and serves as a community of knowledge and insight for all travel professionals. Through innovative education programs, professional certifications and customized learning solutions, the Institute fulfills its non-profit mission to promote a standard of industry knowledge and excellence. The Travel Institute's programs encompass all career stages, from entry level to executive. "We are very proud of Rena's achievement and that she can now be counted among a select few travel professionals who have earned the CTIE designation," said Sho Dozono, president and CEO of Azumano Travel. Founded in 1949, Azumano Travel is a family-owned business headquartered in Portland, Oregon, with $146 million in annual retail sales and over 175 employees. In addition to three offices in Portland and a bilingual operation (Japan Travel Center) in the Portland suburb of Beaverton, Azumano has offices throughout Oregon's Willamette Valley in Tigard, Salem, Albany, Corvallis, and Eugene. It also has an office in Vancouver, Washington, four offices in the Seattle area and one office in Anchorage, Alaska.
