Azumano Travel Organizes Second Flight For Freedom, Nov. 16-19, To Honor Fallen Firefighters in New York PORTLAND, OREGON (November 2, 2001) - Responding to numerous inquiries from citizens who missed out on the original Flight For Freedom in October and to requests from fire departments throughout the Portland metro area, Azumano Travel has organized a second Flight For Freedom to New York City in mid-November. The focal point of Flight For Freedom II will be an opportunity to attend the Memorial Service to honor the 344 firefighters and paramedics killed in the line of duty during the September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and to recognize the sacrifice made by their families. The memorial program will start in the early morning hours on Sunday, November 18, with a procession of uniformed firefighters and paramedics, led by FDNY personnel and union leaders, in the mid-town Manhattan area. This will be followed by a two-hour service beginning at 11 a.m. at Madison Square Garden. Flight For Freedom II also coincides with this year's special "Paint the Town Red, White & Blue" citywide promotion produced by NYC & Company and presented by American Express, Delta Air Lines and Coca Cola. This is when more than 350 of New York City's best hotels, museums, restaurants, stores, Broadway shows and others will be offering significant savings. It is a new version of the popular Paint the Town Red winter celebration and is beginning two months early this year to include November and December in addition to the usual months of January and February. "We are thrilled to be able to offer a sequel to the first Flight For Freedom," said Azumano president and CEO Sho Dozono, who was co-organizer of the original expedition. "Of course, we can't replicate the original Flight For Freedom experience. This group will no doubt take on a character of its own, but I am quite sure that participants will experience an equally warm welcome from New Yorkers and return home with the same sense of pride and accomplishment. And just as with the first group, I'm sure it will be a life-changing experience for some of them." Azumano is offering three travel packages from which to choose, available on a first-come, first-served basis. All packages include round-trip economy airfare on Delta Air Lines between Portland and New York's John F. Kennedy Airport (including air taxes and fees); three nights' accommodations (including city hotel tax and other hotel fees); and an "Oregon Loves NY" button. Prices start at $499 per person, based on double occupancy. Single, triple and quad rates are available upon request. |
