Extra benefits of tighter security

This article from the LA Times caught my eye. There are some unintentional benefits of the tighter security~
Tighter airport security credited with reducing baggage theft. Baggage complaints dropped by about 25% in the first 11 months of 2009, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and tighter airport security might be one reason for the decline. Advanced screening devices have reduced the need for human contact with passengers' luggage, and increased surveillance equipment increases the odds of catching thieves. As a result, for the first 10 months of 2009, the Transportation Security Administration paid out only about $446,000 in claims for baggage theft and damage compared with about $813,000 for all of 2008.
