I had the pleasure of sailing on the Navigator from Venice to Athens visiting Korcula, Croatia, Santorini, Mykonos, Kusadasi Turkey and Athens Greece - 7 days total.
I really enjoyed the small ship atmosphere (490 guests) and the casual yet elegent feel on board. The crew was always friendly, professional and knowledgeable. You felt welcome and comfortable. The food was great and service the best. They do a great job with the shore excursions, you can book what they offer or they have a great onboard staff that will set up a private tour for you, which we did in Ephesus. We had a group of 8 and paid the same as the larger groups.
My favorite excursion which was set up by the ship was an evening classical concert in Ephesus. We were taken down a lighted path through the ancient ruins to the Library were we were seated at small tables with white table clothes and enjoyed wine while being entertained by The Aegean Chamber Orchestra under the moonlight. It could not have been any more beautiful, the concert was the best I have every heard and the atmosphere was amazing.
One thing I did notice on the excursions the ship offers, they never cram the bus full, the buses would only be about 1/2 to 3/4 full so you did not feel crowded, even on the transfers to/from town. While waiting for transfers they always had cold towels and water for you ( it was 90-100 degrees every day). You may also arrange for a private tour ahead of time with the Travel Concierge, which they do encourage. They also brought on board in every port a local expert that was knowledgeable on the city highlights, beaches, restaurants and they would sit at a desk and answer questions, give maps and offer any assistance they could.
The entertainment was enjoyable and since the ship is small the crew of 10 or so put on a variety of song and dance themed shows and your usual comedian and a staff show on the last night. They had a casino, which was never full but there was always a few passengers willing to give up their money.
I started my trip with a couple nights in Venice and stayed at the Metropole. I loved this boutique hotel, location was great and the rooms were very nice.
I have to say the Greek Isles are gorgeous and the cruise was just great. I would go again anytime. Athens is certainly a place you can spend a day or two and then move on, the ancient city, acropolis and museum are well worth a visit.
Whether your passion is history, the arts or fine food and wine, the road to a richer life is paved with learning and new discoveries on Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
If you have any questions on Regent or the destinations, please give me a call and I would be happy to help.
